Xagħra's 100-odd scouts have a newly renovated headquarters thanks to a €90,000 project that was four years in the making.

The Xagħra Scout Group HQ was officially opened yesterday in a ceremony attended by Gozo Minister Anton Refalo and Gozo Bishop Mario Grech.

“Headquarters means having our own space to meet and keep our equipment," said Group Scout Leader Loraine Borg. "It is our second home, a safe haven where members can learn, have fun, create memories and develop holistically into exemplary and responsible citizens."

Xagħra Scout Group was the first Gozitan scout group to open all its sections to both male and female scouts. The group was reactivated in 2008 and was given their headquarters, a 1700s farmhouse, in 2012.

Yesterday's opening ceremony ended with some of the group's most passionate supporters being given awards for their time and energy. After the ceremony guests were invited to view a photographic exhibition of the refurbishment of the new headquarters and a reception followed.

The public has been invited to have a look at the new HQ, with an open day scheduled for this coming Sunday 8 May from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

A special edition of ‘L-iScout Xagħri’ has been published and distributed to herald the new HQ's launch.  More photos and updates from the day and weekly meetings can be accessed via Facebook.
