Fr Peter Serracino Inglott (1936-2012) would have marked his 80th birthday last Tuesday.

Like others, I was privileged to have known him and benefited from the formation he helped us achieve when he served as national chaplain and we were national council members of the ŻHN Movement between 1965 and 1970.

ŻHN members at the time can witness to the contribution he made to the holistic formation of young workers. As Martin Scicluna pointed out in his article ‘Serracino Inglott Awards’ on April 13, Fr Peter “contributed a great deal of inspiring work to the intellectual, emotional and spiritual development of Maltese working youths”.

He had the ability to empower ordinary young people from a working class background, helping them develop into adults capable of active participation in the social, religious and cultural life of our country.

Those who were privileged to form part of the ŻHN Movement during these years are grateful and indebted to him.
