A Young Entrepreneur Challenge was held at Gozo College Boys’ Secondary School, Victoria, during which groups of students formed companies and gave a service to the school community.

The activity was the conclusion of a two-year Erasmusplus and KA2 project entitled Be Enterprising, Succeed Together (BEST) aimed at helping students develop entrepreneurial skills. It also involved schools from the UK, Italy, Norway, Poland, Greece and Estonia.

Four companies were set up at the local school. Thomas John Grima, Matthias Borg and Maximus Sam Azzopardi formed the Fast and Friendly Express Carwash Company. They offered to wash staff cars during break time in the school garage.

The Yummy Treats Catering and Entertaining Company made a variety of sweets in the food lab that were sold at the school. The company was run by Jeremy Formosa, John Paul Buttigieg and Omar Xuereb.

The third company, New Line Cinema, came up with the idea of screening two films during school hours.The company, formed by Arthur Portelli, Steve Galea, Isaac Gauci and Karol Grima, organised the screenings, which included free popcorn with every ticket.

Kurt Xuereb, Andrew Zarb and Stefan Scerri formed the COD company, which organised an online gaming tournament during a mid-day break.

The students had to prepare a business plan for their companies, stating the aim of their business, the company slogan and logo and their respective roles within their company. The students also had to design adverts to promote their activities in the school. All profits made during the event will be donated to charity.
