Sandro would welcome the chance to seal a permanent deal with West Brom but is prepared to keep his options open.

The on-loan QPR midfielder is waiting to hear from the club over whether they will keep him. Albion have an option to make the deal permanent after they signed the Brazil international on loan from Rangers until the end of the season in January.

His agent Luiz Paulo Chignall said: “I don’t know Sandro’s future in this moment because we need to wait for West Brom.

“Sandro has just one season more and then he is a free player.

“He likes the atmosphere of West Brom… I think that after the end of the season the club will contact us.”

Keeper Valdes set for Man. United return

Goalkeeper Victor Valdes is on his way back to Manchester United after having his loan spell at Standard Liege cut short.

The 34-year-old Spaniard joined Belgian club Standard on loan in January having made only two Premier League appearances for United since he moved to Manchester in early 2015.

Valdes helped Standard beat Club Brugge to win the Belgian Cup but Les Rouches have de-cided to give their younger players more opportunities as the season draws to a close.

FIFA goes public with Haven ban

FIFA has banned former Carib-bean Football Union executive committee member Lionel Haven from all football-related activities for five years.

The investigations against Haven concerned his non-disclosure of information related to cash payments at an event held by the CFU in May 2011.

An official FIFA statement read: “The adjudicatory chamber of the independent ethics committee has banned Mr Lionel Haven from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.”

FIFA said the “exceptional” decision to make the judgement public was taken as the adjudicatory chamber was unable to contact Haven at his last known address.

Platini to learn his fate by May 9

UEFA president Michel Platini will discover by May 9 if he has overturned a six-year ban from all-football related activity.

Platini’s appeal against his ban was heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne on Friday.

A CAS spokesperson told PA Sport at the end of the eight-hour hearing that Platini would know the result of his appeal by May 9 at the latest.

UEFA will be keenly awaiting the outcome as it has delayed presidential elections until Platini’s case is concluded.

Over 200 Boca supporters arrested

Paraguayan police said they arrested 237 fans of Argentina’s Boca Juniors club for vandalism and street clashes after their Copa Libertadores game on Thursday.

Boca were in the capital Asuncion for the first leg of a last 16 tie in which they beat Cerro Porteno 2-1 after ex-Juve forward Carlos Tevez opened the scoring.

Following the match, four buses carrying Boca fans were stopped by police and the passengers were arrested.

Earlier, residents said some supporters from the buses had vandalised local businesses.

Police said that weapons, drugs and alcohol had been found on the buses.

Bremen captain Fritz makes a U-turn

Werder Bremen captain Clemens Fritz has reversed his decision to retire in the summer, saying he cannot leave the club after the season they have had.

The 35-year-old former Germany international announced earlier this season that he would be hanging up his boots at the end of the campaign.

However, with Bremen currently battling to extend their 35-year stay in the top flight, Fritz does not want to end his career on a low note.

“Things have come to the stage now where I can say that I cannot leave this club after such a season,” he said.

“I am totally convinced that we will remain in the Bundesliga, but even if we don’t stay up, I will also face the consequences.

“I do not want to leave our fans in the lurch. Werder is and remains a great club.”
