Government whip and former health minister Godfrey Farrugia said he has no intention to go to the Labour Party manifestation in what appears to be a rift with the party.

In a message on Facebook, Dr Farrugia said he intends staying home because he "respected workers".

At the end of a poetic message, Dr Farrugia said he had reflected after taking a walk and came to the conclusion that he should stay away from the May Day celebrations.

His decision comes just two days after Prime Minister Joseph Muscat decided to retain Konrad Mizzi in Cabinet, despite stripping him of the health and energy portfolios in light of his connection with the Panama Papers.

Dr Farrugia's partner, Marlene Farrugia, has even forced a vote of no-confidence in Dr Mizzi.

The Sunday Times of Malta will report on the sentiments within the Labour parliamentary group following the Cabinet reshuffle.
