In the bible, Timothy (6:10) says: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” and, as the Maltese saying goes, “it’s their pockets they fill up first”.

Past administrations, be they Labour or Nationalist, all had their Konrad Mizzis and Keith Schembris. They weren’t any different from what’s going on today.

A politician’s risk is huge and the opportunities and temptations to cheat sometimes become too hard to resist. No matter how difficult it is to penetrate the system, there’s always a new way to bend the rules.

The Opposition’s slogan at the moment is ‘honest politics’ but that’s until they are elected to Parliament, then it would be their turn to play the piano. And so the story repeats itself.
