A jacket worn by the late pop star Prince in his 1984 film Purple Rain will go to auction, expected to fetch more than $100,000.

This biker jacket is one of few items of pop star Prince ever to be put on sale.

Auction organiser Brian Chanes says it was initially expected to fetch around $6,000, but the pop star's death has driven estimates beyond $100,000.

Brian Chanes, head of client relations for auction house profiles said: "We are very excited about this particular jacket. It came in, incidentally, about six weeks ago, prior to the untimely death of Prince. It is from "Purple Rain," and it was the iconic motorcycle jacket he wore while Apollonia was in the back of the motorcycle.

The auction will be held on June 29 in California and international bidders can participate through the internet.

Prince died unexpectedly in his home on April 21, at the age of 57.

Officials are still investigating the cause.
