The Leone Philharmonic Society has announced the events programme marking the 60th anniversary of its historic donation of the statue of the Assumption of Our Lady to the Gozo Cathedral.

The most significant appointment will be an open-air Mass being celebrated at the newly-restored Cathedral Square tomorrow.

Presided over by Bishop Mario Grech, this will be a liturgical celebration with the image of Our Lady Ascended to Heaven as the Mother of Mercy at its heart, in this special jubilee year.

The statue donated 60 years ago on the same day will play an important symbolic role during the celebration by being present at the Cathedral door: one of the three ‘Doors of Mercy’ designated by the Gozo diocese.

The event commences at 7pm. Everyone is invited to attend. These celebrations are taking place just under a week before the first of 15 consecutive Wednesdays in the run-up towards August 15.
