The number of people registering for work in March stood at just over 4,000, according to the latest statistics.

A total of 4,033 people were registering for work in March compared to 5,894 in the same month last year, according to data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation.

The National Statistics Office said that decreases in registered unemployment were recorded among all age groups.

The largest decrease was recorded among persons who had been registering for over one year. The number of persons with a disability who were registering for work also decreased by 64, to 356.

The largest share of males on the unemployment register sought occupations in crafts and trade (17.4 per cent), whereas their female counterparts mostly sought occupations as clerical support workers (30 per cent).

The registered unemployment rate in October stood at 2.8 per cent of the labour supply (excluding part-time employment) and varied from 3.3 per cent among men to 1.9 per cent among women.
