This has been a very hectic month for the local darts association with various competitions reaching a climax.

In Division One, Kalkara St Joseph moved closer to being crowned champions for the first time as they won all their matches so far in April, including a 5-3 victory over strong title contenders Marsa St Michael’s. The latter are now trailing the leaders by five points with two games to go.

In Division Two, Mosta Horseshoe are the official winners of the category and will play in the highest division next season.

It was also confirmed that the national team representing the country at the WDF European Championship in The Netherlands later this year has been selected.

The squad is not short on experience as it includes 28th-time national team player Vincent Busuttil, singles and doubles champion Norbert Attard, this season’s player of the year award leader Albert Scerri and the established Gordon Stanmore, who played for the country 13 times.

Attard is fully committed and ready to give his all in his first showing in the tournament.

“My focus is on the European Championship as this will be the first time for me to be taking part in a major competition,” he said.

“I want to benefit from this experience and prepare myself for next season, including participation at the World Masters in November.”

Scerri, like Attard, is ready to give his all for the national team.

“At present, I’m concentrating mainly on keeping my top spot in the player of the year rankings with only a few weeks left for the season to end,” he said.

“After that, however, I will continue to practise day and night to stay in peak form for the European Championship and the upcoming Malta Open.”
