The government's decision to allocate the former Malta Shipbuilding site for an oil rigs servicing facility was in sharp variance to Labour promises to regenerate Marsa, Independent MP Marlene Farrugia said in Parliament this evening.

This, she said, was another example of how electoral promises had gone out of the window.

Speaking on the adjournment, Dr Farrugia said the government was 'tossing toys' to deviate public attention while the prime minister took no action over his left and right hand men despite them having opened secret companies in Panama.

Other examples of such toys were the Air Malta announcement, while followed a denial last week, she said.

Even Labour Youths had been used as a publicity stint in an activity under an expensive tent on Castille Square today, she said. But even there, the young people had asked about governance.

She said the Panama scandal was continuing to undermine Malta's reputation. People abroad could not believe that Malta, including the police, had taken absolutely no action over this case.

And to make matters worse and add to suspicions, the Police Commissioner had resigned, Dr Farrugia said.

She said she expected May 1 to be a Labour show of force, but that should not be used to justify keeping Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri in saddle. What was wrong remained wrong, and might did not make right. The workers should not be used in this way as well.

Concluding, she said that the government needed to clean itself up, and May 1 would therefore really be a celebration.
