Doubts about the Panama Papers scandal were turning into certainty and disgust, Opposition leader Simon Busutil said in a recorded interview on Net TV this evening.

He said truth had to be said, however negative it was deemed to be, more so as this case went right up to Castille.

He said the cases raised by Labour regarding Mario de Marco and Beppe Fenech Adami did not merit action by him and were only meant to distract the people.

He was satisfied with the detailed explanations that had been given and mud should not be allowed to triumph over truth.

Whenever he had needed to act, he did, as in the case of his own driver, Dr Busuttil said. It was ironic that the police spent five years investigating his driver over fuel usage, but the police did not investigate anything or anyone over the Panama case, where even the possibility of money laundering was suspected.

The prime minister, he said, should have acted within five minutes of the Panama companies owned by Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri being revealed. It made no sense to argue that no funds had been revealed. One did not acquire a money box to keep it empty, he said.
