A six-year-old girl was seriously injured this afternoon when the car she was in was involved in a head-on crash with a police car.

The accident happened shortly after 2.30p.m in Triq Santu Pietru, Għarb.

The girl was in a BMW 120D Sport being driven by her father, a 25-year-old Briton resident in Gharb, while the police car was being driven by a 27-year-old constable from Sannat.

The drivers and a 21-year-old woman who was also also in the BMW were not hurt. 

A Magisterial inquiry is under way.
