Juventus have been crowned Italian champions for a fifth straight season with three games to spare.

The Turin club clinched the Scudetto after Napoli lost to Roma at the Olimpico stadium this afternoon. The 0-1 loss means Juventus have an 12-point lead with just nine points left to play for.

Juventus' title run was especially impressive for the way in which it materialised. Massimiliano Allegri's Juve side took one point from their opening three matches this season and were 11 points off the pace as late as 31 October.

But following a loss to Sassuolo, the reigning champions began an incredible streak which has seen them win 24 of their 25 league games since then, picking up 73 points in that period.

Juventus broke multiple records in their quest to retain the title. No Serie A team had ever won the league having started so poorly, and only their city rivals Torino had ever managed to win the title after losing their first game. The newly-crowned champions are also the first club in 10 years to win the league despite not leading the table at the halfway stage.

Their goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon also broke the Serie A record of consecutive minutes without conceding a goal earlier in this season, going 974 minutes unbeaten. The team's 10-game streak without conceding is also a Serie A record, as is their ongoing 9-game home streak of not conceding a goal.

It is the second time in Juventus' history that the club has won five league titles in a row. They are the only Italian club to have repeated the feat.

It is Juventus' 32nd official Scudetto, although fans of La Vecchia Signora insist that it is actually their 34th. The team had two league titles struck from their record following the calciopoli controversy of ten years ago.
