I am often asked what has Pope Francis to say on corruption. He often spoke on the subject and I will mention just two instances.

When still Archbishop of Buenos Aires he issued a strong pastoral letter denouncing corruption in Argentina. He also spoke in his cathedral directly on the topic and    received very good coverage in the media. The pastoral letter was printed in Italian and copies distributed among Italian politicians.

A more recent denouncement was at Mass he celebrated in St Peter’s for a large group of Italian parliamentarians and senators. Again, he spoke to denounce “the plague of corruption” and calling for honesty, truth and transparency. At the end of the Mass, all expected him to greet them but he surprised or, rather, disappointed many because he went straight from the altar to the sacristy.
