Seven drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol when stopped by police on patrol this morning.

The police said the traffic section carried out various road checks in the St Julian's, San Gwann, Iklin, Birkirkara, Swieqi, and Pembroke area.

A 87 vehicles were stopped and inspected.

Several drivers were stopped for contraventions such as driving without a valid personal or road license and insurance cover, operating a trial run on Sunday, driving through red lights and not wearing seatbelts.

One person was also booked for contravening a continuous white line and failing to obey police orders.
