A short, intensive course spanning just three afternoons will be held during the summer by the AquaBioTech Group to give participants the basics of marine biology.

The course will be run several times in June, July and August to allow different intakes of participants. It includes eight hours of lectures and snorkelling or Scuba-diving sessions.

Participants do not need to have prior knowledge of marine biology or of Scuba diving. An introductory Padi-certified Scuba-diving course will be offered to participants.

The lectures will be delivered by marine biologist Alan Deidun on three consecutive days at 2pm at the group’s premises in Mosta. The Scuba-diving sessions will be held in Sliema, led by the Watercolours Diving Centre, and the snorkelling sessions will take place at Golden Bay.

Participants can also opt for an underwater session during which wireless communication and full-face masks will be used, enabling direct interaction with the lecturer underwater.

The course would be a good foundation for people aiming to delve deeper into the subject later on. It is ideal for locals with limited time on their hands or tourists visiting Malta.
