Further procrastination by the Libyan House of Representatives in Tobruk to endorse the Government of National Accord (GNA) is perpetuating further confusion and chaos in Libya, Foreign Minister George Vella warned today.

Such delays are putting at risk the economic and financial collapse of the country and providing more fertile ground for an increase in terrorism and extremism, Dr Vella said. He added that the people’s representatives in Tobruk must embrace consensus and lead the country towards reconciliation and reconstruction.

Dr Vella said the Libyan people have welcomed the arrival of the GNA's Presidency Council in Tripoli three weeks ago. He welcomed the fact that the relevant Libyan institutions, the Central Bank, National Oil Corporation and the Libyan Investment Authority, as well as municipalities and civil society, are cooperating and working with Prime Minister Fajjez Serraj and his presidency council.

Dr Vella strongly urged all MPs in Tobruk and President Ageela Saleh to shoulder their responsibilities, put aside their personal interests and act decisively in the interests of their country and the friendly Libyan people.
