The newly refurbished Kempinski Hotel in San Lawrenz, Gozo, has been inaugurated by Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis and Gozo Minister Anton Refalo.

The €6 million investment programme was one of a series of many hotel upgrading projects being launched, and such important projects not only reflect the optimism in the tourism industry stakeholders’ future, but also underline the sector’s successful performance, Dr Zammit Lewis said. 

The minister said he was pleased to note that the extremely positive trend in tourism was also being reflected in Gozo. Last year more than one million visitors went to Gozo, of whom 123,000 were tourists who spent more than one night on the island. Moreover, collective accommodation in Gozo registered positive results in both December and January.

Dr Zammit Lewis said he strongly believed that the answer to the issue of seasonality was creating new niche markets. 

Dr Refalo noted the completion of yet another important refurbishment project by the Kempinski hotel.

“This is not just about the investment made in terms of financial expenditure, but more significantly about the mark-up in quality and in value added for an enhanced visitor’s experience.”
