PEMBROKE ATHLETA-0, TARXIEN RAINBOWS-4

Tarxien Rainbows eased to a 4-0 victory over Pembroke Athleta to consolidate sixth place in the standings.

Argentine forward Claudio Frances made the most of a rare start for the Rainbows as he scored a first-half brace that paved the way for his team's comfortable win over a dispirited Pembroke side.

Tarxien Rainbows dictated matters for most of the first half to take a two-goal lead.

Frances put them ahead on 25 minutes with a close-range header from Ayrton Azzopardi's cross.

After Ebiabowei Baker missed a glaring chance to double Tarxien's advantage, Frances scored his second on the stroke of half-time with a well-hit drive.

Pembroke had offered little in the first half but Gustavo Villalobos almost reduced the deficit but his long-range shot was wide.

Tarxien made the points safe on 66 minutes when Joao Pedro traded passes with Frances as he raced into the box before chipping the ball over Pembroke goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia.

With 12 minutes left, Azzopardi increased Tarxien's lead with a fierce drive from outside the box.

Frances was named BOV player of the match.
