A 31-year-old hunter from Dingli is being treated for gunshot wounds in hospital after being accidentally shot by another hunter.

The accident happened at about 7.30am below the Chapel of Mary Magdalene.

The police said the hunter was hit in the face by shotgun pellets and suffered grievous injuries.

The shooter was a 66-year-old man who had been aiming at a bird. He immediately assisted the injured hunter until an ambulance arrived.

The injuries are not life-threatening.
