Charged: Norwich and Sunderland have been charged with failing to control their players during Saturday’s Premier League match at Carrow Road. The flashpoint occurred early in Sunderland’s 3-0 victory, when their defender DeAndre Yedlin was shoved into the advertising hoardings beside the dugout, sparking angry scenes of pushing and shoving between both sides’ players and coaching staff. The clubs have until tomorrow to respond to the charges.

Bale: Gareth Bale has been ruled out of Real Madrid’s La Liga match with Villarreal today with a muscle strain, as coach Zinedine Zidane looks to keep an unexpected late bid for the title on track. Zidane said the Wales international’s injury was not serious. Bale missed seven weeks with a calf problem, and he ended yesterday’s training session early after feeling discomfort.

Carvalhal: Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has been rewarded with a contract extension for guiding the club into play-off contention. The Portuguese moved to Hillsborough last summer and has guided them into the top six of the Championship with four matches to go. He has also got the Owls playing the sort of football which has impressed his chairman Dejphon Chansiri. Carvalhal’s backroom staff have also extended their current contracts at the club.

Sakho: Diafra Sakho could return to the West Ham United squad for the visit of Watford in tonight’s Premier League match. The Senegal striker has recovered from the knee injury which forced him to miss league draws with Arsenal and Leicester, as well as the midweek FA Cup defeat by Manchester United. Boss Slaven Bilic therefore has a full-strength squad.
