The act of drawing and painting has always come naturally for Shawn Carl Agius and Ana Nogueira, currently exhibiting their works at the Cavalieri Art Hotel in St Julian’s.

Born in Rabat in 1988, Agius’s passion for art started back in secondary school where he was enrolled in basic art studies for three years under the tuition of Paul Buhagiar.

After realising his talent, he continued his passion doing sketches and painting as a form of stress relief.

Agius is a person of few words but he manages to evolve his feelings in the form of paintings. In his art he feels free to express himself with no boundaries. With a unique eye for colour he developed his work by experimenting with different techniques.

Influenced by dreams and the world around him Agius creates all kinds of genre, mostly combining realism with abstract and different forms of sunsets.

PortugueseAna Nogueira has been living in Malta for the past 12 years.

Drawing and painting has been a constant in her life since she was a child.

She illustrated a series of books for Portuguese writer and TV critic Mario Castrim. She also illustrated Portuguese teenager magazines and did commissioned work for an advertising campaign.

Her cartoon and illustration background are a visible influence in her actual work. She is spontaneous, not following trends or specific themes, always developing and searching for new challenges with colour, contrasts and shapes.

Her favourite subjects to paint are portraits.

For this exhibition Nogueira combines oil and acrylic on canvas and presents a collection of different styles and techniques, a clear evolution throughout time.
