The House of Representatives observed a minute's silence this evening as a mark of respect for some 400 migrants reported to have drowned in the Mediterranean earlier today.

The Prime Minister expressed his regrets when he spoke in Parliament this evening and thanked the Armed Force of Malta for having in the past weeks and months been involved in search and rescue operations.

He said this case again showed how crucial it was to keep this issue high on the agenda and not to forget it even if migrants were not coming to Malta, he said.
