Ħalmann Vella employees welcomed ALS Foundation Malta founder Bjorn Formosa at the company premises where he was presented with a donation by the chairman, Martin Vella. Mr Formosa was diagnosed with ALS in 2015 and since then has been raising funds and awareness of this condition.

Company architect Hugh Vella and director Mark Vella took Mr Formosa on a tour around the factory, explaining step by step how blocks of marble are turned into finished products, using machinery and human craftsmanship.

Mr Formosa also witnessed the process by which traditional Maltese patterned tiles are made by hand. He also met and spoke to a number of employees, who were touched by his message of hope and his determination.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The foundation supports ALS research while aiming to improve the quality of life of patients.
