What do you think of the TedxUniversity of Malta event?

TED talks have been a constant companion and fascination of mine for years; I watch the latest talk every day. Now that we have this opportunity to bring the TED experience to our University, I hope we will engage the curiosity and imagination of the local audience. Joseph Masini, LL.B, 3rd Year and TedXUniversity of Malta committee member.

I think TED talks are great. They emphasise the power of social learning. The speakers are effective because they don’t just teach, they do. Tyler Cassar, BSc in Software Development, 1st year.

It’s a wonderful, eye-opening idea that really gathers different ideas in one central sphere. It doesn’t matter whether or not you agree with what’s being said; it’s a sure way to keep anyone engaged. Matthew Charles Zammit, LL.B, 3rd year.

What can one expect to gain out of these talks?

The speakers represent a vast range of experiences and a plethora of innovative concepts. I hope they will inspire attendees to dream, spur them to achieve, and motivate them to succeed in leading their own ideas to fruition, aside from providing an excellent networking opportunity for students and professionals alike. Joseph Masini

What people will gain from the talks will depend on their interests. They will learn more about and how to build upon their interests. It is a unique opportunity to attend such event in Malta, to learn from and share with others. Tyler Cassar

It’s an excellent way of promoting Maltese academia internationally, and I’m confident the University’s crème de la crème will make our education institution proud. Matthew Charles Zammit

Are there any major drawbacks in holding such an event in Malta?

One major challenge we face is lack of self-appreciation, especially regarding the potential of our ideas and individual talent. We hope to challenge this perception by providing an international platform for local ‘ideas worth spreading’ to thrive. Joseph Masini

I don’t think there are any drawbacks in hosting such an event in Malta. We’re giving our youth and adults a chance to learn more, to hear others speak about their experiences and how they’ve dealt with them. Tyler Cassar

Aside from obvious infrastructural issues, the most important obstacle to overcome is students’ participation. Once that’s sorted, everything will fall into place. Matthew Charles Zammit

The event takes place on May 18 from 6.30 to 10.30pm. For details visit https://m.facebook.com/TEDxUoMalta
