As part of a series of seminars on the contemporary political crisis in the Arab world, Dr Norbert Bugeja will give a talk entitled ‘Hyper-despotism of the bullet: Destourian thought and the politics of sabotage in post-Bardo Tunisia’.

It will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 7 pm in the University’s Faculty of Arts library, on the second floor of Old Humanities Building.

Students and the public are invited to attend.

The seminar forms part of the 19th annual series of the University’s Work in Progress in the Social Studies convened by Paul Clough, Peter Mayo and Michael Briguglio.

The transgender tipping point?

‘The transgender tipping point? Trans representation in contemporary film and media’ is the title of a public lecture to be held by the University of Malta’s Department of Gender Studies on Tuesday from 5 to 7pm at he University’s IT Services Building, VC hall 101, Level 1.

The speaker, Dr Niall Richardson from Sussex University, UK, will review the critical respon­ses to transgender politics and analyse popular stereotypes of trans people and discuss recent revisions in contemporary film and media texts to see if there actually has been a transgender tipping point in popular cultural representation.
