George Clooney would like to get big money out of politics - so he does not have to raise it.

The actor hosted two weekend fundraisers in California on behalf of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Donations at an event in San Francisco reached $353,000 per couple, which Clooney acknowledged is an "obscene amount of money".

In an interview on NBC's Meet the Press, Clooney noted that the event drew pro-Bernie Sanders demonstrators. The actor said that when he went to talk with them, they called him a corporate shill.

Clooney called that "one of the funnier things you could say about me".

Some of them wore T-shirts saying he was a terrible Batman in the 1997 movie Batman And Robin. On that, Clooney said, they have a point.
