Contemporary dance and music have been added to the list of ingredients for this year’s Malta International Festival, together with Grammy Award-winning composer Arvo Pärt and the interactive installation Bandli.

The programme for the eleventh edition now includes Tlieta (Three), by the national dance company ŻfinMalta, and contemporary music by POW Ensemble.

ŻfinMalta, who do not need any introduction, have prepared an evening with three works by female choreographers and composers hinging on notions of reflection, communication, construction, destruction and resistance at Pjazza Teatru Rjal on July 11 at 9pm.

The ensemble will present the works of emerging choreographer Rachel Calleja, established dance creator and educator Francesca Tranter and internationally acclaimed dance artist Athanasia Kanellopoulou.

Meanwhile, Dutch music group led by composer Luc Houkamp, the POW Ensemble, will present a light-hearted show with catchy songs and improvisations by five virtuoso musicians on an eclectic ensemble of instruments: tap dance, tuba, flute, game controllers and voices.

POW Ensemble will also present a collaboration between Maltese poets and composers, and their performance at Fortress Builders has been scheduled for July 12 at 9pm.

Details about the festival, organised by Arts Council Malta, are available on www.maltaartsfestival.org. More event notices will be published every Friday, with the complete programme unveiled by Wednesday, May 4. Early bird tickets will be available from May 4 until June 7.
