Daniel Radcliffe will return to a New York stage in James Graham’s play Privacy, which was inspired by the revelations by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

The Public Theatre said the former Harry Potter star will appear in the 2014 play that “explores how governments and corporations collect and use our personal information, and what that means for our security, our identity and our future”.

It will run from July 5 to August 7.

The cast includes De’Adre Aziza, Raffi Barsoumian, Michael Countryman, Rachel Dratch and Reg Rogers.

It will be directed by Donmar Warehouse artistic director Josie Rourke.

Radcliffe was last on Broadway in The Cripple of Inishmaan in 2014.

He also was in Equus in 2008 and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2011.
