The finals of the San Michel ITF U-18 tournaments were played at the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club, recently.

Turkey’s Cengiz Aksu, the seed no.1, was pitted against Gabriel Huber, of Austria, the fourth seed, in the boys’ medal match.

It was a hard-fought encounter but Aksu finally overcame his opponent 6-3, 6-3.

The day before both players had won their semi-final matches in three sets – Aksu against Morgan Lohan (Ireland) 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and Huber against Ryan Guskin (Great Britain) 6-7, 6-4,7-6.

In the girls’ final at the VLTC, Daria Frayman, of Russia, swept aside the challenge of Denmark’s Clara Tauson.

This was another lively encounter. In the end, Frayman beat Tauson 6-3, 6-4.

In the boys’ doubles final, Frederic Jacobs and Robin Vanhauwe, of Belgium, beat British pair Gus-kin and Alexander Carlos Parker 6-4, 6-1.

Ana Makatsaria, of Georgia, and Russian Anna Titova met little difficulty in beating Anna Loughlan (Great Britain) and Isabella Tcherkes Zade (Italy) 6-2, 6-0 for the girls’ doubles title.

Malta Tennis Federation vice president Mark Camilleri and Victor Rutter, VLTC secretary, presented trophies to the winners.
