Syrian rebel forces are rolling into Islamic State's main stronghold in northern Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the rebels captured the town of al Rai yesterday.

Here a rebel fighter claims it was the Free Syrian Army.

Al-Rai sits near the Turkish border and had been heavily defended by IS.

But after days of what it described as intense U.S. bombing and Turkish artillery fire, an IS-linked news agency conceded the town's loss.

The group's local headquarters in the town was also captured.

Video showed its new conquerers celebrating on the streets.

It was the first retreat by IS since they made major advances in the area last May.
