Having just returned from a 10-day visit to Malta I found the Tallinja “explore” card very convenient and good value. However, when the seven-day period expired, I ventured to buy a ticket for myself and my wife on a bus at the Valletta terminus.

The driver, who was talking on his mobile, grunted “no change” when he saw the €5 note I presented and carried on his mobile conversation. My wife searched for change and finally came up with €3, whereupon having condescended to finish his conversation he took the money and gave us two tickets.

My question is: having changed the organ-grinder, is it not about time Malta Public Transport changed the monkey?
