The Akkademja tal-Malti appreciates the view of those correspondents who have written in the Times of Malta extolling Pawlu Mizzi’s contribution to the development of the Maltese book.

We are very much aware that his Klabb Kotba Maltin and Midsea Books have contributed immensely to the ever-increasing popularity of the Maltese book. We would also like to put on record the pioneering work of Alfons Maria Galea with his 150-book series Kotba għall-Mogħdija taż-Żmien during the period 1899-1915.

The selfless work of Ġużè Bonnici, who in the 1930s took to personally publishing the works of his contemporaries with his Ġabra ta’ Kitba Maltija, also cannot be ignored.

The Akkademja feels very grateful to these three gentlemen for their pioneering work in making the Maltese book what it is today.
