A video has emerged of a horse being viciously whipped in Swatar yesterday afternoon.

The clip shows the horse struggling on the ground as a man, presumably its owner, whips it indiscriminately. The reasons behind the incident and the fate of the horse are not yet known.

Meanwhile, a silent protest will be held on April 17 starting at the Love monument in Spinola with the theme 'What good are laws without enforcement?' The protest is organised by well-known campaigner Moira Delia.

Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Rights Roderick Galdes said the video of the horse beating has been passed on to the police.

In the evening, Police Inspector Sandro Camilleri, secretary of the Police Officers' Union said the person allegedly involved had been identified and was being interrogated by three police inspectors.
