Some countries, due to economic instability and even greed, suffer from the scourge of corruption. One can mention countries such as Panama and Venezuela as examples of countries that have problems with corruption.
Corruption has various forms: moral, spiritual, political and economic and they normally go together. People suffer as a result, and so do their international reputation and incoming foreign investment.
Where countries like Sweden, Norway and Denmark have high moral and fiscal standards, their people are happier in general and less corrupt. Where does Malta stand in this regard? Below the European average, according to reports.
Can’t we have cleaner administrations, governments and people? Isn’t our much vaunted Catholicism having a bearing on our moral standards, and if not, why not? Are we a devious Mediterranean people, socially and financially insecure, and so corruptible?
There must surely be a remedy.
