Nico Rosberg won the Bahrain Formula One grand prix this afternoon, his second win in as many races this season, while champion and Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton came a distant third.

The Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen came second but team-mate Vettel suffered an engine failure during the formation lap and did not take the start.

The new Haas team built on its impressive sixth on its debut race to finish fifth while McLaren's reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne, standing in for the injured Fernando Alonso came in tenth and won a point on his debut race. Team-mate Jenson Button retired early in the race.

Rosberg stretched his lead over Hamilton at the top of the standings to 17 points after two races. The win was the 16th of the German's career and the eighth in a row for champions Mercedes.
