Q: A few weeks ago the cooker hob, which is still under guarantee, broke into pieces while I was using it. The seller is refusing to replace it because he says that the glass is not covered by the guarantee.

Is this really the case? Do I have any rights?

A: If the hob has not been purchased more than two years ago, then it is not only covered by the commercial guarantee given to you by the trader but is also covered by the Consumer Affairs Act.

While the commercial guarantee may exclude certain parts of the product, such as in your case parts made of glass, this is not the case for the legal guarantee. Hence, unless the damage in the hob has been caused by you through some kind of misuse, legally you are entitled to free repair or replacement of the defective product.
