A baby rhino has captured taking its first steps after being born on Good Friday.

The southern white rhino calf, who already weighs 67.5kg is the first to have been delivered at the West Midlands Safari Park, Worcestershire, for a decade.

Ailsa, the male calf's mother, was pregnant for 16 months and her newborn will need feeding regularly throughout the day, staff at the park said.

Deputy head keeper of ungulates Lisa Watkins said: "The baby hasn't got horns yet, but these start to develop straight away and can reach almost a metre when fully grown.

"Both mum and baby are doing brilliantly well and Ailsa is providing all the care we would expect, even though she is a first time mum."

She added the calf, who is currently nameless, is "absolutely gorgeous".
