Tourist arrivals in February were estimated at 81,386, 9.7 per cent more than in the same month last year, the National Statistics Office said.

It said this 66,137 came on holiday, 9,291 on business.

Tourists from EU states went up by 7.9 per cent to 69,264 over the same month last year.

Total nights spent went up by 10.4 per cent, reaching 581,394 nights. The largest share of guest nights (69.8 per cent) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €57.8 million, an increase of 9.6 per cent over the same month last year.

Arrivals from January to February amounted to 165,822, an increase of 11.7 per cent over the same period last year. Total nights spent went up by 9.6 per cent, surpassing 1.2 million nights.

Total tourism expenditure was estimated at €123.1 million, 8.2 per cent more than that recorded for 2015. Total expenditure per capita stood at €742, a decrease of 3.1 per cent when compared to 2015.
