Floriana FC’s former president Stephen Vaughan has been jailed for 15 months by Liverpool Crown Court for helping a police killer flee the country.
Policeman constable Neil Doyle, 36, was killed during a confrontation with football agent Andrew Taylor, 29, and Mr Donovan, a sports event manager, on a Christmas night out in Liverpool.
Mr Vaughan allowed his sister’s boyfriend Timmy Donavan, 30, to borrow his car, which he used to flee to Germany hours after the officer was killed.
The off-duty policeman died after he was struck in Colquitt Street in the early hours of Friday, December 19.
Mr Donovan was not arrested until January 21, 2015 at Dusseldorf airport in Germany.
Mr Vaughan took over the helm of Floriana FC in January 2013, resigning in February the following year.
In April last year, the club filed an application for a garnishee order against their former president and his father, claiming they owed them €70,000.
On their part, the Vaughans had previously taken legal action against Floriana on grounds that they were owed a significant sum of money by the club.
After severing their ties with Floriana, the Vaughans agreed on a two-year sponsorship with Hibernians.
A mutual agreement resolving all pending issues was reached in January.
