A Siamese cat named Cupcake survived eight days in a box and travelled more than 260 miles.

Cupcake was accidentally locked up in a box with an order of DVDs her owners sent by mail from Falmouth in Cornwall to West Sussex.

The recipient, surprised to find a very dehydrated Cupcake in the box, quickly contacted the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. After the vets tended to the cat’s immediate needs, they got in touch with the owners as it was microchipped.

The vets said they were relieved to see the contact details were up to date and they could contact the owners straight away.

“They had been frantically looking for their beloved cat, putting up posters in the local area but not for a second realising that she had been accidentally posted to an address in West Sussex, 260 miles away,” they said.

Julie Baggott, Cupcake’s owner, told the BBC she felt horrible when she realised her cat went missing, even more so when she found out what happened.
