A document entitled ‘Gozo – A vision with enthusiasm’ containing over 60 proposals for discussion on the present and future of Gozo and its youths was presented at a conference at the Grand Hotel, Mġarr, as part of the iLead – The Creative Leader Academy project.

The proposals included the legal recognition of Gozo as a region, granting Gozitans more autonomy through a regional parliament, the building of an international airport on Gozo, the setting up of an international university in Gozo, the introduction of a fast ferry service for passengers and cars between the islands, and a proposal for Malta’s six MEPs to be elected from six regions of Malta and Gozo, with one MEP frrom each region.

Over the past 12 months, Gozitan youths participating in the project have attended sessions and workshops led by an international expert, together with local intellectuals, journalists and entrepreneurs, in order to learn skills in leadership. These include entrepreneurial abilities, tools in advocacy, learning tools, skills in delivery and action, as well as training in confidence and empowerment.

The project is organised by the Gozo Youth Council, which gathers 28 Gozo-based youth organisations, and is by funded by EEA grants and SOS Malta and co-financed by Aġenzija Żagħzagħ.
