The 2016 Goalkeeper Battle, the sixth in the series, will be held at the beach soccer pitch in Pretty Bay, Birżebbuġa, in June, the organisers announced recently.

This will be the first time that the competition will shift from the turf pitches to a sandy venue near the shoreline. It will be staged in conjunction with the Birżebbuġa Local Council and sponsored mainly by TeamSport and Browns Pharmacy.

There will be eight categories, starting from U-9s and including a section for girls, contested and up to 32 participants in each section can take part.

The draws of the tournament will be made on May 21.

Participants will figure in qualifying group rounds before the knock-out stages. Each game will have a duration of four minutes and Malta FA referees will be assigned to control matches.

Various trophies will be at stake including two special awards for top scorer and for the keeper conceding the least number of goals. Application forms may be collected from TeamSport store in l-Iklin, Di Milano, Paola, and all nursery clubs in Malta and Gozo.

Meanwhile, for the third consecutive year, profits from sponsors and gate money will go to the Zem Zem Foundation, a voluntary organisation that provides assistance to patients suffering from rare diseases.

Those who wish to donate may do so via APS Bank.
