From sparking up fires to hunting mammoth and warring with enemy tribes, we have quite a clear idea of how our ancestors spent their days. Far Cry Primal by Ubisoft makes that idea a bit more clear and puts you in the savage seat.

Far Cry Primal by Ubisoft is set in 10,000BC. Our protagonist is Takkar, who is searching for lost members of his Wenja tribe. The search takes place in the Oros valley, which is a wilderness of frozen caves, forests and swamps, all inhabited by savage animals ranging from mammoths to sabre-tooth tigers.

As Takkar, you are tasked with finding the lost members of your tribe and building a new Wenja village. While doing so, you also unlock new weapons and abilities, which come in handy when meeting members of other tribes who, in most cases, are more interested in waging war than in making friends.

Far Cry Primal looks amazing. The open-plan world is rendered in detail, as are the animals that inhabit it. The day-night cycle also adds a dynamic element to the game – as night falls, predators are more abundant and aggressive. It’s also a cruel world – you have to survive the cold and learn how to tame animals. Be careful where you put your feet – accidentally stepping into a swamp will make you prey to the underwater predators that abound. Such added dangers make the game more fun to play.
