The next President of the United States will have to manage a very unstable world, where challenges are becoming more complex... from the aggressive policies of Russia and China, the serious conflicts in the Middle East and the India-Pakistan nuclear arms race, to America’s role in Asia, in particular the serious threats of North Korea.

The most important thing is this: who will be the next US President: Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz or Bernie Sanders? For sure, the next President will have to set the direction of the fight against terrorism, define America’s role in the Syrian crisis and address the tensions being created by China with its neighbors, tensions that could easily turn into a military conflict.

Unfortunately, none of the candidates for the US presidency have offered much sense of how they would actually take on these crucial problems, with the exception of Clinton, who is inspiring some confidence in this arena.

A former secretary of state, she is the most experienced in foreign affairs which, very likely, will dominate the next administration as it had dominated much of the Obama presidency.

If Clinton succeeds in winning the top post, she is likely to continue on President Barack Obama’s path, though some diplomats argue she might be too willing to intervene militarily.

As secretary of state, she wanted to do more to help the rebels fighting Bashar al-Assad in Syria and supported the American intervention in Libya. Now she is calling for a no-fly zone in Syria to protect civilians, a move some Republicans also advocated.

If, however, the unexpected political ascendance of the vulgar billionaire Trump prevails (he is an unscrupulous man who revels in his ignorance of world affairs) and he succeeds to eventually eliminate Clinton from the race, then it would certainly be America’s greatest disaster. On the other hand, should Clinton ever make it to the White House, then America’s greatness will be secured.
