The news about the possible beatification of Bro. Louis Camilleri is very welcome.

I had known him when my boys used to attend De La Salle College. Just for clarification, the news item announcing the beatification process, mistakenly said he will be the second Maltese saint.

The first Maltese saint was St Publius. As per standard Vatican procedure, Publius was reconfirmed saint and, thus, canonised, when Pope Urbanus VIII established the procedure for any saint to be declared patron saint, in this case of the Maltese islands (Acta S. Sedis, XI, 292).

St Publius was formally and officially declared one of the patron saints of Malta and, thus, as per the above provisions, was confirmed not only officially a canonised saint but, more so, a patron saint of both islands.

Any ignorance about and animosity towards St Publius must be laid to rest and the Curia should put aside any bias and ignore all types of misinformation that had been spread. Please stop repeating the same mistake and let us be proud of our Christian roots.
