Harry Redknapp has joined Derby County as a “football advisor” for the rest of the season.

The former Tottenham, West Ham, Portsmouth, Southampton and QPR boss will assist Rams head coach Darren Wassall, whose position is to be reviewed in the summer.

Redknapp, 69, will combine the role alongside a coaching job with the Jordan national team.

Redknapp takes up his role with Derby with immediate effect and he will be at their home game against east midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Adriano prolongs Barcelona stay

Barcelona full-back Adriano has extended his contract until the end of next season.

The 31-year-old’s deal was due to expire this summer but featured an additional one-year option, which he has agreed to take up.

The Brazil international joined Barca from Sevilla in 2010, having begun his career with Coritiba in his homeland.

Adriano has won the Primera Division three times and the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey twice apiece with the Catalan giants.

Austria extend Koller’s contract

Marcel Koller will lead Austria’s bid for a place at the 2018 World Cup after signing a contract extension to remain as manager beyond this summer’s European Championship.

Under the Swiss, Austria have reached an all-time high of number 10 in the world rankings after qualifying for Euro 2016 with 28 out of a possible 30 points.

Koller, who took over from Dietmar Constantini in November 2011, has penned a new deal until the end of 2017, although it will be extended should Austria qualify for the next World Cup in Russia.

Koller’s immediate challenge is to get his side through a Euro 2016 group containing Portugal, Iceland and Hungary.

Sultan’s nephew joins Leicester City

The nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, one of the richest men in the world, has moved to Leicester City from Chelsea.

Faiq Jefri Bolkiah, a 17-year-old winger who has been at Chelsea since 2014, took to Instagram to announce his move to the Premier League table toppers.

“Happy to announce I have signed a long term professional contract at @lcfc. Would like to thank all my family and close friends for all the support. Was also a pleasure meeting the owner himself. Can’t wait to get started,” he said.

Bolkiah has played regularly for Chelsea’s U-18s this season but switched to Leicester in search of first-team football.

N. Ireland’s O’Neill signs four-year deal

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill has signed a new four-year contract after taking his team to the Euro 2016 finals.

Northern Ireland finished top of their qualifying group to reach the European Championship finals for the first time and have been drawn in Group C, alongside Germany, Poland and Ukraine for the June 10-July 10 tournament in France.

“I am extremely proud to be manager of Northern Ireland and I have thoroughly enjoyed the role over the past four years,” O’Neill told the Irish FA’s website.

“I am therefore pleased to have signed this new long-term contract with the stability that it brings to me, the staff and the players.”

Kompany expected to be out for a month

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is likely to be sidelined for about a month after suffering a recurrence of a calf problem on Tuesday as his side qualified for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

Kompany was forced off in the fifth minute but City went on to reach the last eight of the competition for the first time after drawing 0-0 at home to Dynamo Kiev to advance 3-1 on aggregate.

“Vincent again has a muscle injury in his calf,” manager Manuel Pellegrini told reporters.

“We’ll know tomorrow (today), or maybe the day after tomorrow, how bad it is but always a muscle injury is a minimum of one month out.”

Belgium central defender Kompany, who only returned from a calf problem in February having been out since December, will have to miss Sunday’s home league derby with neighbours Manchester United.

Sleepy Bendtner

Wolfsburg forward Nicklas Bendtner has admitted he was fined for turning up to training 45 minutes late on Monday.

The former Arsenal forward has been fined €2,250 – €50 for every minute of his arrears.

“I just slept in and didn’t hear my alarm,” the 28-year-old Denmark international said.

“It’s my mistake.”

Bendtner has scored twice for the Wolves this season, although he has been left out of the matchday squad for the past six games.
