Mdina Glass, Malta’s pre-eminent producer of handmade glassware is no stranger to weddings. For many years, couples planning their big day have been heading over to the Ta’ Qali outlet for wedding favours and mementos, or to order tailor-made gifts, commemorative items and cake toppers.

Now, in addition to this, the glassmaker has embellished a small number of local wedding receptions with some of its most impressive creations on a rental basis. Products include colourful hanging ball lights, intricate chandeliers and warm, romantic candle-lit lanterns.

As Olivia Said, who heads production and product design at Mdina Glass explains, “When we introduced a number of new products in recent years, clients started to show an interest in them to make their reception venue something extra special. It wouldn’t be feasible for clients to buy the products for that one evening, so we reserved a number of items and came up with an option to rent.”

Even though a number of weddings have used this service, it is only this year that it is being made official. Rentals include consultation, delivery, installation and dismantling.
