Premier League clubs are set to reduce the proposed price of a season ticket from €230 to €180 to make it more attractive for fans, Times of Malta understands.

Highlighting the points of the new business model for the top division during a presentation to the media yesterday, Malta FA president Norman Darmanin Demajo, the mastermind of this project, said clubs had recommended a price of €230 for a season ticket but this caused a backlash among fans who took to social media to voice their disapproval.

Heeding the fans' grievances, Darmanin Demajo met representatives of the Premier Division Standing Committee after yesterday's Malta FA Council meeting to resume discussions on the business model.

Sources have told Times of Malta that clubs are now leaning towards a more affordable season ticket price of €180 while the matchday admission fee is likely to rise from €7 to €10 instead of €12.

The season ticket will be transferable and valid for all Premier League and FA Trophy games.

Tickets for Kartanzjan holders will cost €5 while the Family Stand will remain open to families and nurseries.

The absolute majority of the Premier League clubs are also in favour of raising the number of clubs in the top division from 12 to 14 from the start of season 2017/18.

The championship will be played over two rounds with no division of points, provided it receives approval at the MFA's Annual General Meeting.
